Football Betting for Sports Betting Rookies

Did you know that betting on football brings in more money each year in the United States than any two other sports combined? Whether we are talking amateur or professional play, people are quick to jump at the opportunity of making the sport a little bit more exciting through laying a bet. In fact, there are some people who are able to make some good money betting during the course of a football season.

You might have dreams of winning big through football bets one day, but the odds are pretty good you aren’t there yet. You might know all the statistics and figures for every team in the NFL, but unless you have a knowledge of how football betting and sports betting in general works, that knowledge won’t get you very far.  This article is designed to help set you on the road to winning ways as far as football betting goes.

Types of bet:

The most popular types of bets in football are bets made on the spread. The spread refers to the number of points a team will win by in a game. A team must win the game by that amount of points, or more, in order to be considered the winner. Here’s an example:

New England Patriots -21
Pittsburgh Steelers +21

The Patriots have to win by more than 21 points in order for those who wagered on them to collect their bet.

If you don’t like taking chances on points, then you can just bet on who will win the game. This is called money line betting. If you want to bet on a favorite team to win, you will have to pay more money than you stand to win. In other words, you will have to bet $150 for every $100 you can win if the favorite takes the game. You will still get your bet back, so you actually receive $250 from the book if you make the right call.

On the other hand, sports books try to balance the betting by offering better value to those betting on football underdogs. Instead of paying $150 for the team to win, you receive that money for every $100 you bet.

Maybe you are so skilled at predicting the outcome of football games that you think you can pick four winners out of four matches. If so, you can opt to bet the parlay. In order to win, every team you pick on a card has to be victorious in their game. Parlay bets are harder to win but offer a much higher payout than any other type of bet.

Football betting tips for beginners:

•Bet one game a day: It can be really hard to limit your betting activity, especially if the bet you placed on any given Sunday is a losing one. However, making more than one bet as a rookie is a big mistake and you stand to lose a lot of money. Keep it to one game and you won’t find yourself chasing losses.

•Don’t take heavy favorites: Make sure you only make what are known as good value bets. There might be a dominant team out there, but the book makers know it just as well as you do. You should never bet more than twice what you could win, even if you think the outcome of a game is a given. Football is unpredictable, and a loss on a bad value bet can really set you back!

•Avoid really close spreads: At least for those starting out, good sports betting strategy says to avoid close spreads. It’s better to take less money on a straight up win.

BOOM! No More Madden On Gameday

April 30, 2009 by

This fall, for the first time in more than half a century, John Madden won't have a football season.   If you're an NFL fan, at some point or another you were exposed to Madden, to his high-octane, booming-voiced commentary, to his clever turns of phrase and his less than artistic use of the telestrator to draw on the screen.Like scotch, or Katharine Hepburn, John had lovers and haters.  Lots of people loved him, and lots thought he was very over-rated, trying too hard to become more of a focus than the game itself.

Madden's peak years came when he was paired with Pat Summerall on play-by-play, as Pat's lowkey style left lots of room for John to roam. You couldn't invent a better announcing pair.

Former NFL announcer Mark Oristano, author of A SPORTSCASTER'S GUIDE TO WATCHING FOOTBALL, thinks Madden knew it was time to go.

"It's almost impossible to stay on top as long as John did, or as a team, as long as John and Pat did.  And when you consider the way the NFL game has changed in just the last decade, let alone the years since Madden left coaching, it's tough to stay current with what's going on down on the field."

Added to that, of course, is Madden's legendary fear of flying, which led him to travel the country in the famous "Madden Cruiser" bus.The bus made it more comfortable for him, but it also added days at both ends of an already time-consuming job.

"John also had lots of personal foibles," Oristano says.  "He never tied his shoes.  He never stayed above the third floor of a hotel.  He had his quirks."

Did he change the job?To some degree.  He made the telestrator something of an abstract art tool as much as an illustrator for coaches.  And he kept the sense of fun in the game that seems to be lacking in lots of the announcers who want us to think what we're watching is the most important event in world history, let alone sports history.  Did he talk too much at times? What announcer doesn't?Did he tend to wander at times?  Sure, but he made you laugh a whole lot more.

And, for the rest of your days, whenever you hear the word "boom," who will you think of besides Big John?

What you Should Learn About Horse Riding and Horse Riding Lessons

If you appreciate viewing others ride horses, you are probably the type of person who wishes to experience riding for yourself.  If that's the situation, you should be somewhat surprised to find out that is a pleasurable and fulfilling way to spend some leisure time.  Horseback riding, should teach you to appreciate what beautiful animals horses are, as well as assist you in learning a skill which many people have not master.  Spending time around differnt breeds of horses, and having the chance to ride them, is an opportunity that doesn't compare to many others available.  When you are ready to begin your horse riding experience, you need to start by taking a few begining steps.

Step One - Riding Basics

As with several endeavors, you must first find out about the basics prior to taking up horseback riding lessons.  You should do any research and perform your due diligence to find out what will be necesary, before you sign up for any type of horseback lesson program.  Your top consideration is whether you are really interested in riding, or really just like watching these wonderful animals.  For example, riding is not a hobby for the timid and there is some risk involved.

Horse Riding Camp vs. Private Lessons

For a novice, your best two options are to begin with group lessons at a horseback riding camp, or invest in individual lessons.  Each one has its advantages as well as disadvantages.  Group lessons are usually less expensive, but you will not get as much attention as in a private lesson.  Individual are almost always more expensive, but you should be able to learn much more, especially with an experienced trainer.  You could even be better off attempting both group as well as individual lessons to see which is best for you.

Due Diligence

You can use the web to do your homework, and just learn the different tips for horseback riding and of course always remember the different safety precautions that you need to take when horseback riding.

Horse riding is a special activity that anyone should try at least once, and if you have kids this is something that you are should want to consider enjoying with them.

Whatever option you pick, remember that you are taking up riding for enjoyment, not as a chore.

eBikes of future

anyway,I used my bike everyday to get to work everyday in the summer when I lived in downtown Toronto. I did it for the exercise and the fresh air,as I enjoyed being outside,I enjoyed the sun,I really can't refer to the exhaust filled air along the road as fresh!

I was energized when I got to work - the ride there was better than a large coffee.
While electric bikes aren't new; they are not only gaining popularity now but they may just become main stream. I don't know if an e-bike would certainly be faster than my little legs could peddle it would give me the same satisfaction personally, but I'd be lacking my daily exercise Or would I? Ebikes are actually designed to enable the cyclist to peddle when he or she wants to; with an electric bicycle the option is there to use to motor to go for example uphill with ease Not everyone can shower when they get to work if they arrive sweaty and not everyone would care either! But having the option to enjoy your ride to work priceless and not arriving at work with spaghetti legs!

The least expensive ebike is around $650 CDN; but they can go as high as $1500 CDN for a complete high end pre-built folding electric bike. As long as you know the technical ins and outs of a bike, the cheaper way is to purchase (and install) a conversion kit, this shouldn't be too difficult.

Of course, the main advantage of a pre-built ebike is that it would be or should be covered by some sort of warranty; and as with any new product, whether a pre-built bike or a conversion kit, there are bound to 'bugs' that will need working out.

Consider all of your options and take a moment to play with our electric bike selector. If you don't find a suitable pre-built electric bicycle for your needs, you'll definitely want to make an electric bicycle with one of our electric bike kits. National Football League

April 30, 2009 by

In order to promote football as a professional American game and to regulate teams, the owners of 11 football teams across the USA formed a professional football association in 1920. This association would later become known as the National Football League (NFL). The original name of the association was the American Professional Football Association, which later was changed to the American Football League in 1921 and finally to the NFL in 1922.

There are two divisions of the National Football League, the AFC (American Football Conference) and the NFC (National Football Conference). Each conference has four divisions with 4 teams in each division. The primary objective of the NFL is to promote the game, set the regular season schedule of competitors and to host a playoff game, the world championship, known as the Super Bowl.

Each team is on a 17-week schedule, where they will play 16 games against teams in their conference each week and have one week off. The regular football season begins in September, the Thursday immediately following Labor Day, and generally concludes at the end of December or first week of January. At the conclusion of the regular season, the six top teams from each conference (AFC and NFC) will play in a single elimination tournament, known as the playoffs. The top two teams from the playoffs that will then face off in the Super Bowl.

In addition to the schedules and the administration of professional football, the National Football League also promotes and owns all rights to the Super Bowl, including picking the host stadium for the annual event. That task is accomplished through a bidding process in which a host city will make a proposal to the National Football League for the Super Bowl to be held in their city.

In addition to the many guidelines reqired by the National Football League, the stadium's seating capacity is an important consideration. Recently, many cities with a football team have built new stadiums with larger capacities to meet this important NFL requirement. Another consideration is the impact the super Bowl will have on the area. For example, when Jacksonville hosted their first Super Bowl in 2005 (Super Bowl XXXIX), they had several problems that put a strain on local resources, one of which was the enormous amount of people using the public bathrooms that caused an unanticipated strain on the local wastewater plant.

Nevertheless, The National Football League, as a governing body, has been instrumental in bringing Football into the home of millions of Americans as well as making it as popular as the great American pastime of Baseball.

Amazing golf courses

These five course are my personal favourites they can be argued but you cant argue with the amazing quality of these courses. Get those electric golf trolleys ready, here come the best of the best.

5. At number five- Shinecock Hills
This is a brilliant course that has been the host to four US opens. A very challenging course indeed you will struggle to make your handicap on this one. This course was first designed in 1891 and was re-designed later in 1930, with little changing since then proving the course to be almost faultless.

4. At number four is the magnificent St Andrews (old)
Quite possibly the oldest golf course in the world with golf being played here way back in the 12th century. Although known as the home of golf it is apparently not very good for newcomers to the course. This is a course that you have to get to know before you like playing here so many other golfers have said.

3. Cypress point golf club is number 3
the vast majority of people will never get a chance to play on this course as it only has 250 members but the last few holes have been called the best in golf. This had to come into the top five, I have never actually played this course but always wanted too.

2. Royal County Down golf course is at number two
This course is the best course in the UK hands down and was designed wback in 1889 with major works done to it in 1908. Some of the best golf I have ever played has been on this course which is why it is at the number two slot, of course it is a stunning course which helps.

1.At number one is the brilliant Pine Valley
It had to be the number one slot purely because it is the most stunning course I have ever seen in my life. The course itself is brilliant with only one thing i suggest avoiding and that is the 10ft bunker containing no sand to get out with! If you get the ball into this bunker then you are most certainly stuffed.

So there it is, the top five golf courses I have picked from the world. No need to charge up those golf batteries when you have the caddies at these places to drag your clubs around for you.

Super golf gadgets

April 28, 2009 by

These top five gadgets are here because I think they are pretty funny and useful it is very doubtful that they will actually help improve your game at all. These gadgets can also be used in the home enviroment which is great for when you cant be bothered to go up to the golf course but still want a little golf in the day. Some of them could even help improve the normal electric golf trolleys.

5. The tee that loads the ball for you
This is a fantastic idea for when you are practicing driving at your local course as this can contain around 30 balls and at the push f your club the ball will automatically get put onto one of the tees which is a brilliant idea for saving time watching the ball fall off the tee every time you bend down to put it there.

4. The driver of all drivers
Of course this is classed as cheating it is a great way of getting out of a tough spot when your having a fun round of golf. If your ball falls into the rough and it’s a bit difficult to shoot out of then the big daddy driver actually cuts the grass as well as being disguised as a driver. Brilliant gadget.

3. The club that keeps your drink cool
This is great as it looks like a normal club but pours any liquid you put into it straight into a cup at the touch of a little hidden button. The gadget is good for when you dont want to pay for the overpriced drinks at the clubhouse as you can do this for no charge at all.

2. A chip island that floats
A great gadget if you have your own pool as you can pratice those chip shots without the hassle of going down to the course. The golf balls are made of the material velcro so instead of bouncing off into the pool hopefully they land on the island. Even great if you dont have your own pool as you can quite easily go down to the local public one and take it down there, maybe it wouldnt go down too well with the lifeguards but who really cares!

1. The golf ball that is remote controlled
This is by far the best golf gadget as after you have hit the ball if it doesn’t quite make it to the hole you can control it in. Although cheating this is a great during a recreational round as you can have a great laugh cheating all your friends.

Although your better off buying the plain golf gadgets like golf batteries these will help you if you want a bit of laugh whilst playing.

Let The Hype Begin: The NFL Draft Is Upon Us

April 28, 2009 by

It's arguably the most over-hyped event in all of sports.

The NFL draft of college talent, which takes place this weekend, is analyzed, scrutinized, and poked and prodded through by a vast army of self-proclaimed experts who conduct mock drafts and are certain they know, exactly, what each team wants and needs, and how they'll go about getting it.

NFL fans will be glued to ESPN or NFL Network at the end of April waiting to hear each pick announced.

But former NFL announcer Mark Oristano, author of A SPORTSCASTER'S GUIDE TO WATCHING FOOTBALL thinks the whole thing is a bit over the top.

"Most NFL personnel people will tell you it takes a good four years to determine how succsessful a draft has been.  So if you want to celebrate anything this weekend, you might want to take a look at your team's 2005 draft."

Can you honestly tell yet whether JaMarcus Russell, the Raider QB who was #1 in 2007, is a superstar QB yet?Doubtful.  It takes time to develop into a suitable, sizable NFL player.

Or how about going back to 2005, to the Browns Braylon Edwards, a #3 overall pick at WR?  Came in with a "can't miss" tag. They might want to think about changing it to "can't catch".Cleveland is down on him now, and he's not too thrilled with Cleveland, so they're trying to trade him in advance of the draft.

NFL scouts spend all year tooling around the country, measuring players height, weight, vertical leap, standing broad jump, 40-yard dash time, even hand span. You heard me... hand span. The smaller your hand, the more difficult it is to control the football.  And that means more fumbles.

"I've had NFL people who've been in the league for 30 years tell me they don't even know what makes a great player," says Oristano, "at least not before they've seen him in the NFL for five years or so.  It's all a guessing game."

Nontheless, if you're a fan, you'll be glued to the tube draft weekend, cheering or booing, as the situation demands. We all love it.

Crisis Beated by E-Bikes

AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands - The electric bicycle was the driving force for the Dutch bike market in 2008. In the other main European bike market, Germany, electric bikes are now gaining momentum while also in other markets in Europe electric bicycles are beating the financial crisis with ongoing sales growth.

According to the Dutch industry organizations RAI and BOVAG,in 2008 the number of e-Bikes has risen to about 140,000 units beyond all expectations. Total sales in Germany 2008 raise to 100,000 units. For 2009 this number is expected to grow with about 25 to 30%, says the German ZIV association.

On the expectations for Europe’s 2009 sales it is said to grow to about 400,000, according to industry associations. This number again seems at the low end of the scale given the fact that in Europe’s main markets, Germany and the Netherlands, the public interest in e-Bikes even folding electric bikes is at a high level.

The e-Bike business in china remained strong last year which is the world biggest e-Bike market. Total 2008 sales stood at 21 million electric bicycles. According to officials at the China Bicycle Association (CBA), the ebike business of China is strong, with only a modest 4% reduction in export of complete e-Bikes due to economic crises last year.

China’s 2008 exports exported to 170 different countries which stood at 580,000 complete e-Bikes. The CBA figures do not include the very large numbers of CKD and SKD electric bikes that are exported to India and the EU. Sales will become more larger than the export number suggest with them included.

The recently founded Light Electric Vehicle Association as well as the EU and USA says on the dynamic growth in the last year in India, many smaller markets Even in the difficult year, it is easy to see that electric bicycles are a very important vehicle category that is becoming one of the top 5 vehicle categories used by humans worldwide.”
